Ajaccio in the rain

Lija and I spent what seemed like a lifetime hanging about in Ajaccio in the drizzle. We also had a rather fraught couchsurfing experience which I don't have the energy to write about now. Suffice it to say, it involved open sores, bloodstained sheets from said open sores, mouldy dishes, drink-driving and extremely unsubtle cadging of money to subsidise alcoholism.

But things improved with our next host, a single-mother, firefighter and journalist who was lovely. She lived in the hills in a converted olive-mill, surrounded by olive trees and jasmine, and took us out in her open-topped car to the iles sanguinares, which rose out of the hazy sea like a mirage.
